Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third horror film of the Hatchet Series. It follows Victor Crowley's murderous rampage across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. The film features Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn as Deputy Winslow, and Rileah Vanderbilt in the role of Misty.



The film's greatest strength is its use of practical special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of makeup effects that are practical as well as sets. This is a departure from many horror movies today that rely heavily upon CG effects. It also features some really horrifying moments.

The cast delivers a solid performance and Kane Hodder standing out as an incredibly terrifying villain. It's like an '80s slasher movie and the dialogue is somewhat tongue-in-cheek and campy. There are also some really funny moments (blog) that provide a sense of some humor in the midst of the terrifying action.

Unfortunately, because the budget is so limited (reportedly one million dollars) the majority of locations used in the film are re-used locations from previous films in series. For instance the same boathouse was featured twice in the film. Many of these locations seem like they've been reused from other films in this franchise. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 films may feel like it's a familiar film.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was enjoyable although it was like the previous entries within the series. It provided lots of thrilling thrills and some entertaining performances from its actors.
